3 Steps to Engagement Photos Worth Printing

Happy Independence Day! Well, almost anyway. I hope you all enjoy your long and beautiful holiday weekend.

This week we get to  spend time celebrating our freedoms here at home and reflecting on what ensures us those freedoms.

Today I was red to showcase something super special to me on this Independence Day week! My sister, her fiancé and our hometown. I am so incredible proud of Burleson, TX and the people that work hard to make it the great place that it is. Hopefully this Burleson Texas engagement session will inspire you all week to do great things and be present in each magical moment.

When your sister is getting married you give her a 2 hour engagement session..

Then you kill it! I generally prefer longer engagement sessions. It feels like more of an adventure, and you know, I am all about adventure!

Even though Elizabeth and Ian met while they were both working at Starbucks she declines my advances for Starbucks shoot. Bummer! Well, it was a bummer until the morning of this session.  I don’t intend to give up on the Starbucks  dream. However, I was floored by what what nature gave us! We were greeted by the still quiet of nature and the majesty of fog on the water at Bailey Lake here in our hometown of Burleson, TX . The light was magic and must have been inspired by my sister and her fiance. It glowed for us in the best way and we were able to create so much variety that morning.  From playful to intimate, this session gives you a taste of every flavor of the morning light and the emotion that it inspires.

While I don’t want to say too much ( wedding speech and all) I do want to mention that I have never seen my sister so comfortably herself. I know she has self image issues just like the rest of us {Check out this post for 5 steps to self love here} but I hope she sees herself the way Ian does when she looks deeper into these photos. At the very least, I hope she notices the way he looks at her.

That’s a boy, lost in a girl.

3 Quick Steps to the Perfect Engagement Photos

1. Pick the Perfect Photographer

You need someone you trust completely. Someone who knows how to find a location that fits your needs perfectly. {Liz and Ian go on this nature walk together quite often. He even proposed next to one of the tress you see in this set!} Hire someone who takes the time to find these things out! Find someone you can have fun with, someone that can make you relax.

2. Outfits on Point

Make sure you are comfortable but fashionable. Again, your photographer is a great person to help you with this. Let them style you! Neutral, earthy colors, plenty of texture and make sure you can dance in it! {Elizabeth is wearing a dress by Free People and rocking the texture it provides. Her crown is DIY}.

3. Be in the Moment

Cameras in your face are uncomfortable. No way around it. Take a little time before and during your session to refocus your energy to what you are actually doing. Out of billions of Earthlings you have managed to find the one your heart sings to. Engagement photos are a celebration of that. Take the time to focus on their touch, their breath, their smell and the way it feels to be wrapped up in them.
